Distribution and Transmission Control Center

Tour enrollment limited to 40 people.
This visit will probably last 3 – 4 hours, excluding travel time. Box lunches will be provided.
This is a hosted tour offered by Progress Energy Florida. A bus will take participants to the Distribution and Transmission Control Center at Progress Energy’s main site in St. Petersburg. Attendees will tour the central Distribution Dispatching Operations Center, which handles all distribution switching and large outages 24/7. Progress Energy relies upon the InService Dispatch software in this office. Additionally, a field unit will be on site to show the actual mobile computer truck installation, also based on InService software.
Attendees will also visit the Energy Control Center which handles all transmission switching over Progress Energy Florida’s grid of 69KV, 115KV, 230KV and 500KV, which is also a 24/7 operation.
Each of these centers controls 20,000 square miles of service territory with 1.5 million customers.
