The City of Lakeland spans an area of approximately 48 square miles and has a population of 89,731 people in the city proper. The Police Department provides services to an estimated 200,000 people. The Lakeland Police Department Communications Center is an E-911 PSAP Center for the city and accepts emergency calls on regular telephone lines and cellular telephones. The Lakeland Fire Department provides Fire and EMT-D First Responder medical services to the City of Lakeland and a contracted area outside of the city limits. The Communications Center is a multi-agency operation and dispatches calls for service for both the Police and Fire/Rescue Departments.

Lakeland PoliceThe Communications Center cut over in November 1998 from a manual dispatch operation with a center computer providing for central records to a single Intergraph I/CAD database server with six calltaker stations, four dispatcher stations, and two administration positions with dispatching software. Also included in the configuration is a server for I/LEADS Police, Intergraph's law enforcement records management system, mobile computing, in-vehicle text-to-voice translation, and interfaces for ANI/ALI, fire station printing, mobile data terminals, and state and national databases. Tour participants will see the center's applications for dispatch, mobile, and records managements from a number of perspectives. City of Lakeland employees will be on hand to discuss the applications in greater detail with smaller groups depending on the tour participants areas of interest.
